PSM Services, PHA & Life cycle studies

Process safety is a disciplined framework for managing the integrity of operating systems and processes that handle hazardous substances. It relies on good design principles, engineering and operating and maintenance practices.

Process safety management (PSM) is a risk-based hazard control process, which protects employees, environment and the assets from accidental release of toxic materials, harmful physical agents. In PSM, all actions are taken to avoid any injury or damage resulting from work-related activities

SCE process safety experts with their active roles in PSM activities in the Oil and Gas (Upstream/downstream), Petroleum and Chemical industry effectively lead various PSM related studies, like HAZID, HAZOP and SIL studies. We provide consultancy services for all process safety life cycle activities from conceptual design through installation and commissioning and up to and including the maintenance phase of the safety instrumented systems.

Process Hazard Analysis

With industry certifications and approval to practice ‘process safety’ and ‘risk management’ activities, our process safety consultants provide following services.

  • Formal Safety Assessment studies and services for process risk assessment including HSE workshop facilitations (HAZID, HAZOP, SIMPOS etc.)
  • Construction Risk Assessment studies like Construction Safety risk assessment and Hot Change over risk assessments, etc.

Functional Safety And Reliability: Process Safety Life Cycle

A safety system is functionally safe if random, common cause and systematic failures do not lead to malfunctioning of the safety system and do not result in

  • Injury or death of humans
  • Spills to the environment
  • Loss of equipment or production

Our functional safety experts are well trained and experienced in implementation of the IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards in the process sector since the early years of inception of these standards. They possess in depth knowledge and experience in applying the standards to Safety Instrumented Systems in a variety of processing environments like; upstream oil and gas, petroleum, petro-chemical and chemical plants.

Functional Safety And Reliability: F&G System

We offer Fire and Gas system safety and reliability studies as per on ISA TR 84.00.07 guideline utilizing event tree-based probability modeling technique.

F&G system studies are based on the functional safety standards IEC 61508 and 61511 however the methodology used for process safety studies cannot be utilized for F&G system effectiveness and reliability studies based on following key factors:-

  • Uncertainties related to deviation detection in case of a release/fire event
  • Uncertainties related to effectiveness of mitigation

‘SCE’ functional safety professionals have long term association and experience in developing F&G effectiveness study methodology for various clients in the process sector in accordance with ISA TR 84.00.07 and have executed and supported the functional safety life cycle activities for measuring and maintaining F&G system effectiveness, safety and reliability.
